The week before last week I worked on lab09. This was a pretty complicated lab. I went through it once while helping a friend. Then when I did by myself I already knew what I was supposed to do and I was able to do it a much simpler way. Though I don't think I'll be using this method in the future since I basically did the lab twice. But really helped my comprehension. I also enjoyed not having a quiz over this material.

Last week we worked on lab08. I once again tried to use my system of working on my stuff in the mornings at home, but this time it failed me. I set my alarm wrong and ended up waking up three hours later than I had planned. Because of this I had to finish my entire lab in class as it was due at the end of the day. I couldn't do it though. Towards the end, when I saw my defeat was imminent, I just gave up. I'm going to try to be more productive from now on. I'll also try to set my alarms correctly.
The week before last week we worked on finishing all the lab07s. I did most of 07a at home because I was working on other things during class. I'm a lot more productive at home. I think this is because I have class at the end of the day when I'm tired out from the day and feeling unmotivated. But when I go home I immediately go to bed and then get up early in the morning, feeling very refreshed, and do all my homework then. This system works very well for me. I enjoyed working with strings in these labs. I took the quiz and didn't do as well as I expected. Some questions seemed too easy to me and I over thought them, thinking they were deceptively simple.

Last week we started working more in depth with strings. I have a little experience working with this because I did extra credit work online that dealt with strings. Having this knowledge is helpful. We also started lab07. Part a is quite difficult and there are some parts I don't understand. I ended up skipping ahead to parts b and c. They were very easy and took a short amount of time. We also started learning about lists. I am a little behind because I had a college visit one day day last week. It took longer than I expected and I missed the introduction to lists and a quiz on strings. I will have to take the quiz soon and catch up on lists on my own.

The week before last week was the last week before spring break. It seemed to drag on forever. In computer programming, we continued work with the finches and watched some ted talks. I was very impressed with the finch library. It has some interesting stuff. I wrote a code to make my finch check the weather and come out if it was above 70 degrees. On our last day of class before spring break we watched a bunch of videos. I love to see all the cool new technology. I especially like it when ordinary things are used to do something that I didn’t even think possible. It just goes to show the creativity of the human mind.
I worked on project02. For some reason, I really like this project. It’s my favorite so far. It just clicks in my head. Writing comments still gets on my nerves though. But I can see how they’re helpful. I can look at my code and see exactly what it’s supposed to do and if it’s working properly. This can be helpful if there's a problem and I need to go right to where it's messing. And anybody who's using my prewritten code can understand it better. Comments are just a pain to write.

We began work with the finches. I think these things are pretty cool. It feels interesting to know that I can cause something to move with words I type on my computer and then to watch it happen. Because I finished early, I started looking at the other things that you could do with the finches in the finch library. This stuff seems pretty random and unrelated to the finches but still very cool. I hope to work more with the finches.

The week before last week I completed lab05. I had a little trouble with this lab. It was hard making my brain think through the steps to accomplishing my end goal. After this I just made sure I had finished everything as it was the end of the six weeks. I also had a reading response. I find the issue of the SOPA/PIPA bills very interesting. It's amazing that the government is trying to proceed with these bills even though they don't accomplish their end goal and are receiving so much negative response. I look forward to seeing the end result. I'm also looking forward to the new six weeks.

Last week I was absent on tuesday. On that day we worked on lab05 and were assigned project02. I am behind now and I will probably have to catch up at home. On thursday we had a work day and I finished project01. I feel like I didn't get that much accomplished that day because project01 is something I should have done at home, and with the time I spent working on it, I could have been working on something else. But I will focus on catching up and maybe even getting ahead. I need to keep remembering to send myself my code after I'm done working on it at school. It's very hard to work on stuff at home when I don't have the code that I've already completed. This is going to be a challenge for me since I am so forgetful. But I will try!

This week we continued work on our projects. I didn't finish mine, so I'll have to do it at home. I wanted to do it this weekend, but I forgot to send it to myself so it's just sitting on my computer at school. On friday, we worked on a site called codingbat. I liked the extra credit assignments on it and I will be taking advantage of them to the full. I have already finished the first part of the extra credit and I am almost done with the second. This is a great boost for my grade, which was brought down by the quizzes. I'm enjoying python. It is very logical and if you take it step by step it makes sense. I disliked jeroo but it has helped me transition into python. I suppose it was a necessary evil.

This week we continued to work on python. I'm starting to really like python. Though it is really hard to remember all the different commands for things, especially anything to do with windows or the math functions. At these points I find myself having to look this stuff up again, and the prelabs have been very helpful for this. Though despite however much I look at a prelab, I still seem to be doing poorly on the quizzes. I am generally not very good at any kind of conceptual python question. I can look at code and solve it (most of the time), but anytime words are involved I lose comprehension. This might just be my personality. I am a very math oriented person, especially the kind of math where you plug something into a formula and look at what comes out the other side. Words are not my friend.

This week we worked on python. So far I like python. It's a little confusing at times, but it mostly makes sense to me. I generally enjoy things that work logically and step by step. I have trouble remembering the concepts though, and I haven't been doing so well on the quizzes. But I'm going to try to study harder and do better on the next quiz. I'll need to work on it outside of class more if I'm going to bring my grades up. Time to stop being lazy and try harder.
